HYPOTHYROIDISM:  A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ALLOPATHIC AND AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF THE DISEASE By Ajita Patel

Abstract
According to American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, over 27 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease with hypothyroidism being most prevalent and significant as it can go undetected for many years. Almost all forms of thyroid disease eventually result in hypothyroidism, a disease that directly affects every cell of the body and as a result affects all aspects of physical and emotional well being. This is a humble attempt to take a closer look at the possible causes, symptoms and effective methods of managing this pervasive disease from both the perspective of modern medicine as well as using Ayurvedic principles, in the hope that it improves the quality of life for those suffering with the disease.
